Once upon a time, before Talbot Avenue was born, Kim and I met as housemates and over a period of a few months we quickly came to realise that we were destined to be in one another’s lives.  We are both the kind of people who like to surround ourselves by dreamers, doers, believers and thinkers.  Many a time we have spent under the moonlight, drinking rose, dissecting life, our purpose, what connects us to this world and others around us.  It has always been important to open up a safe space between us where we can each share all that matters to us, from the mundane to the magical.

  • The Whole Life Challenge THE WHOLE LIFE CHALLENGE

    With The Whole Life Challenge just around the corner, today I reflected back on the trigger that lead me to a healthier and happy lifestyle.  Two years ago my partner and I embarked on The Whole Life Challenge.  At the time I was terribly unfit, highly inactive and ate cheese and white starchy carbs like they were water.  My partner had done the challenge earlier in the year, and he had been encouraging me for a while to get more active and understand more about what I was putting into my body.  So (slightly reluctantly) I agreed to embark on the WLC together with him, more for the fun of challenging myself than anything else.  Having never really stuck to any exercise regime or “diet” before, I didn’t have high expectations to see much change, but hey, I’ve jumped out of a plane and survived, a little lettuce and fresh air won’t kill me?  What started off as a fun challenge, quickly became one of the biggest eye-openers I’ve ever had…

    It is 4:48am.  My mind and body are wide awake.  I (KS) have slept at most 4.5 hours.  Whilst this is not a common occurrence,  I know the day ahead will be full of activities, meetings and demands that require a good night’s sleep.  I often wonder how much sleep do we really need? The Talbot team pack a lot into a day and often our fast-paced, busy lifestyles result in us functioning on very little sleep.  Whilst our days are full and we work hard to balance both work and play, we often find that exhaustion and tiredness are something we have gotten used to.

    The Talbot Girls are always on the hunt for new, fun and invigorating ways to move our bodies and nourish our minds.  Our weekly repertoire consists of morning yoga, a long walk most days, sporadic attempts at running (a work in progress…), some light weight work and in between it all…dancing.  We dance in front of the mirror, we break out in dance whilst we walk along the beach, and we can’t forget our daily outbursts when a really good song comes on whilst we’re working at our desks and our small shimmies turn into an all-out dance off (winner TBC).  So when a little birdie told us about Nia, our ears pricked up…

  • Adrenal fatigue, stress, anxiety WHAT THE HELL IS ADRENAL FATIGUE?

    Us Talbot girls pride ourselves on our fast-paced, busy lifestyles.  Sometimes it amazes us how much we can pack into a day, a skill we’ve always found beneficial to juggle our work, our families and friendships.  However this type of lifestyle can definitely take its toll.  AJ started seeing a naturopath last year to start working on holistic measures to improve her overall health and wellbeing, because we all need a little TLC once in a while!  One of the terms which was brought up during her sessions was “Adrenal Fatigue”.  For those of you who are totally unfamiliar with this term…don’t worry, so were we.
