The Talbot Girls are always on the hunt for new, fun and invigorating ways to move our bodies and nourish our minds.  Our weekly repertoire consists of morning yoga, a long walk most days, sporadic attempts at running (a work in progress…), some light weight work and in between it all…dancing.  We dance in front of the mirror, we break out in dance whilst we walk along the beach, and we can’t forget our daily outbursts when a really good song comes on whilst we’re working at our desks and our small shimmies turn into an all-out dance off (winner TBC).  So when a little birdie told us about Nia, our ears pricked up…

What is Nia?

Inspired by the martial arts, dance arts & healing arts, Nia is a sensory-based transformational movement & lifestyle practice that leaves you feeling uplifted and alive.  It empowers people of all ages, body types and fitness abilities by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit.

Created as an alternative to the “no pain, no gain” attitude to fitness, Nia is designed to nourish and nurture your body now and in the future.

Based on the intelligent design of the body, a classic Nia class is a barefoot, sensory-based, cardio movement class to music.

Some of the many benefits of Nia include cardiovascular health, alleviation of stress and anxiety, hormonal stability and an increase in wellbeing, leaving you feeling energised, alive, mentally clear and emotionally balanced.

The practice draws on the chemistry of nine movement forms: Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido, Jazz, Modern Dance, Duncan Dance, Yoga, the Alexander Technique and the work of Moshe Feldenkrais®.

This unique blend allows the body to move in fun and free ways that bring health and vitality to every part.

Listening and dancing to an eclectic mix of global music, Nia teaches you to feel at home in your body, mind, emotions and spirit and to live with joy.

The Nia practice provides tools to weave these powerful teachings into the fabric and rhythm of your every day life.

Who is Nia suitable for?

They say – if you have a body, you’re ready for Nia!  There is absolutely no experience necessary for Nia, the classes are suitable for everyone.

If you suffer from stress and anxiety, Nia is fantastic for alleviating symptoms, leaving you feeling calm and relaxed, yet invigorated and alive.

If high-intensity workouts aren’t suitable for you and your body, Nia is a great alternative.  On the flip side, it’s also great to incorporate into your fitness calendar, to complement your high intensity workouts.
